My collection is outdoor wear for fall/winter 19/20. The inspiration for the collection is buildering and urban exploring. My intention for the collection is to mix the aesthetics of street wear and outdoor wear. The color story came from the colors I was most frequently seeing on trend websites and books. I am waiting on my fabrics to arrive but I have ordered rip stop, stretch nylon, waterproof and windproof materials for jackets, wicking jersey for shirts, fleece, insulation for winter coats, and other performance materials. Once I further researched the market I came to the conclusion that many of the outdoor wear brands have similar clothing for men and women, so why not create a unisex collection. My collection will be unisex but offer pants in women's sizes so that the customers can find their ideal fit. I have started sampling ice dying to mimic rocks such as marble. I have also started sketching in illustrator and calling out trims and details. Should I reformat my whole project to look similar to a climbing guide book? I really like the idea but I also don't hate what I am doing right now. Should I make graphic tee's? I am thinking of designing a fair isle sweater as well but am on the fence about it because it isn't exactly functional for climbing but it could add depth and texture to my collection, if you have any opinions let me know!
Hi Olivia,
Here are a few thoughts:
- I like how you are formatting your work now and I think you could continue on for your process and then try the guide book idea for your final presentation.
- I think it would be great if you also profiled a climber's story in each addition so that there was a connection to the customer and another reason for them to pick up your book.
- I love the idea of an argyle sweater. It will also help your clothing to feel like a lifestyle brand and not solely to be worn for climbing. Consider doing a modern version of an fairisle where you are following the general look of the…
I like how organized your blog is. It is easy to read and I can see your train of thought throughout. I would like to see some of the illustrator sketches you have started. I think you should either include images of them or take out that part in your intro so that it is consistent throughout this post.
This is a really great start. Your samples are beautiful. You really paid attention to detail when designing and researching. Like Deidre said, some things are a little bit fuzzy. With Wix sites, I don't believe you can upload a PDF. Just make sure when you are converting your files that you are in the highest resolution.
The lay out of your blog is great, very visual appealing. I like the ice dyeing research you did. I can't wait to see more designs. Some of the research is difficult to read
because of a backgroup image.
Thank you and good luck.
